Things I have learned in college so far....

So I am almost done with my second year at the U and I was thinking about all the stuff I have learned...
and really some of it I didn't learn in class....
Well...let's be real, most of it I didn't learn in class.
And because I really like bullet point lists....I'm gonna throw some knowledge down in a bullet list.
Don't get too excited
and this is probably only part one...there is a lot more that I have learned that I have yet to throw down into words.
I'm basically awesome.

Gems I have learned in my two years as a Ute (Part I)

·      Most days it is a beautiful day to skip class
When you’re studying tonight, remember how much fun you could be having at a nearby frat house
·         Only going to class to see the hot guy that sits in front of you, even if you don’t say anything to him
·         Girls get your running shoes laced up. Cleat chasing season is right around the corner.
·         Remember: get an education because “swag” isn’t going to pay your bills in 10 years
·         If the cops want to catch drunk drivers they should chill in the Taco Bell’s drive thru anytime after midnight.
·         It’s not always the grades you make, but the hands you shake
·         A university is just a group of buildings gathered around a library
·         If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail
·         In college you can party, study or sleep, but there is only time in a day for two of them
·         When reviewing your notes before an exam, the most important will be illegible
·         If you are given an open-book exam, you will forget your book
·         80% of the final exam will be based on the one lecture you missed and the one book you didn’t read
·         Every professor assumes that you have nothing else to do except study for their course
·         Copy from one it’s plagiarism. Copy from many, it’s research
·         We never really grow up, we just learn how to act in public
·         Your mind plans to log into your online school account; your fingers log into Twitter and Facebook
·         Girls: tripped in my heels last night 7 times. Can’t find my phone. Hooked up, hope he was an athlete
·         Screw this, I’m leaving class 30 minutes early to go eat
·         Not knowing your plans for the weekend until ten minutes before
·         ATM = Another Twenty Missing
·         Finding out the class notes are all online = “see you losers at finals”
·         No shave November leads to can’t get laid December
·         Good decisions come from experience, and experience comes from bad decisions
·         If there’s not a ring on your finger, you’re single
·         There’s a special place in hell for people that take up two parking spots during finals week
·         If you blow up a girl’s phone, Facebook or Twitter and she doesn’t reply, get the hint bro
·         There is a special place in hell for people who get ready for an 8 am class
·         If you’re not young and wild, you will never be old and wise
·         90% of the stuff you worry about isn’t going to happen. Except for that Calculus final, that’s definitely going to happen
·         “He has a girlfriend” Challenge accepted
·         Due tomorrow = Do Tomorrow
·         Wait…there’s a school part of college??
·         I’ve never been to hell but I imagine it is very similar to an 8am class
·         Tim to begin cultivating a fake friendship with the nerd sitting next to me if I have any hope of passing this class
·         To go to class, or not to go to class: that is the question
·         C’s get degrees
·         If someone deleted google I would fail all of my classes
·         It’s ok to make mistakes, just don’t date them
·         Dear Thin Mints and the little whore that sold them to me: screw you for ruining my spring break body
·         That awkward moment when the kid next to you is bragging how he got a 97 on his exam and doesn’t know it was out of 200
·         That awesome moment when your used books already have all the important parts highlighted
·         So studying makes the tests easier? Good to know
·         “Hey did you study for the test?” “We have a test?”
·         Changing the date on your papers so it doesn’t look like you did it last minute
·         “this is not a paper you can write overnight class.” Don’t underestimate me
·         “Sleep now study later” quickly turns into “screw it, I’ll just fail”

Much love,

The One With All the Quotes

Here's something that shouldn't ever come as a surprise to people....I really love quotes...can't help it I just do
So I figured that while I am avoiding my homework (like a boss might I add) I thought that I would share a few of my favorite quotes with all of you.
Please try to contain your excitement...no need to embarrass yourself over this.

  • "You were created in God's image. God makes no mistakes. To put yourself down for the way you are is to insult God's handiwork. You are beautiful."
  • "Let go of feeling you are anything but beautiful. Let go of thinking you can't do this on your own. Let go of being scared that you might not be good enough. Let go of saying you were meant to be alone." -Pasek and Paul, 'Edges'
  • "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything."
  • "Sometimes not being in control is the most beautiful thing in the world."
  • "We need to teach our daughters the difference between a man who flatters her and a man who compliments her. A man who spends money on her and a man who invests in her. A man who views her a property and a man who views her properly. A man who lusts after her and a man who loves her. A man who believes he is God's gift to woman and a man who remembers a woman is God's gift to man. And then we need to teach our sons to be that kind of man.
  • "Every saint has a past and ever sinner has future." -Oscar Wilde
  • "A person who is nice to you but is not nice to the waiter is not a nice person."
  • "Counting other people's sins does not make you a saint."
  • "Don't marry a man unless you would be proud to have a son exactly like him."
  • "Boys like blondes, men fall in love with brunettes"
  • "Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people that you are...you aren't."
  • "Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life."
  • "When life gets too hard to stand, kneel."
And there really are sooooooooooooo many more. But those are the ones that drift to the top of the pile when I think about my favorite quotes. Much love!

Without you......

You guys

....I miss football....

so much

Seriously though, what do people watch on the off season??
And yes I do realize how sad this sounds and what a first world problem this is....but just deal with it. It makes me sad haha.
I sit around on Saturdays and Sundays with nothing to do..nothing to watch and nothing to get my blood boiling..
Monday nights aren't the same without the Monday Night Football theme song
Thursday nights.....well we aren't even discuss how depressing those are.

I need the NFL back...I need NCAA football back....this is going to be a looooooong off season
This is just NOT ok.
August 30th...the first University of Utah football game....So excited!

MUSS registration just got me all excited for football to start back up and I have to wait another 5 1/2 months give or take a few days.....I think it might kill me.....GAAAAAHHHHH

I mean basketball is all well and good....but it just doesn't fill the void in my heart.
Besides March Madness ruins my birthday month ;)

Althooooooooough even though I want football season to come back as quickly as possible that would mean that the summer would be over really quickly...so I guess it is more of a give and take thing...because I also want summer to hurry up and get here.
I am so excited for long summer nights, spontaneous adventures, flip flops, short shorts and tank tops.
I'm ready for warm weather and lazy days.
Road trips to St. George, Las Vegas and California with my best friends.
I just cannot wait for summer. I have a good feeling that summer 2012 will be an epic one.

I am REALLY missing Ravens football......football please come back!!

Sometimes it feels as if all that I am doing is waiting for something to start haha; football, summer, school. the end of school. Which is crazy. I should just let go and enjoy the ride :)
Much love!

It's Been Awhile

It's been kind of a long time since I last blogged....oops....
But hey isn't that a good sign? Just means that I have been keeping my attention focused on school and work...right? Well that's the story and I'm sticking to it!
The past few weeks have been both incredibly exciting and incredibly boring.....the boring part is of course school. It is such a necessary evil that we all have to get through if we want the careers we have always dreamed of. Although let's be real, we would all immediately jump at the chance to just get our degrees now without having to put the time and most importantly the money into going to school. At least I would.
I have to say the most important and exciting thing that has happened to me, not only in this past week but basically in my whole life, is...
I GOT A NEW CAR.
I know what you're thinking, "But Linds....didn't you just get a new car?"
Yes, I did....but for a lot of different reasons that one just didn't work out so my beyond amazing Uncle Trent helped me to buy a new car....well let's be real....he basically bought my new car.
It's a 2012 Hyundai Elantra and I couldn't be more excited.
Pictures of my new baby coming soon.....
Compared to the Accent my Elantra is sooooo much better and I can't even begin to describe how grateful I am that Uncle Trent and his family gave me the opportunity to own such a wonderful car.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

But other than that nothing to exciting or epic has happened in my life. I really don't have a life....I mean I pretend and all but I just go to work and school....living the good life ;)

And...as always here are a few pictures of my recent adventures....

Basketball is here!!!! (and has been for awhile..at least for the collegiate level)

Sad when those Runnin' Utes lose....we still love them though

Hehe...Lemons....what can I say? Lexi and I are a special brand of awesome and you are all just jealous ;)

We love basketball!!! Even if they aren't having the most stellar season ever...

This is my "Did the ref really make that call??????" face

GO UTES! <3

Diet Coke pictures basically define our friendship at times. And I LOVE it!

I really do love this picture <3

Boring Class BINGO!

So anyone who has ever been in school...and I mean ever...understands that sometimes the lectures can be the dullest things of your life and really you don't know whether cry from boredom or just sleep. But you know that you can't do either because if you fall asleep you might miss the one important part of the whole class and if you just randomly start crying people will think you are having some sort of frightening break down and you might end up getting yourself committed to some psych ward somewhere.
Luckily there are clever folks out there {I am not taking credit for this idea, I don't think this creatively when I am uber bored in class, I just end up surfing the web} that come up with great ways to get you and your friends to pass the time in class without sleeping.
It's called Boring Class Bingo and it is actually pretty funny to play.
You start out with a piece of paper, any paper will do, and you draw a chart that is 5 boxes across and 5 boxes down. In the middle is your free space {sound familiar yet? Yep it's your basic run of the mill Bingo set up} the twist on this one is coming.
Now in whatever order you choose place the following things in the remaining boxes:
  • Student who obviously rolled out of bed five minutes ago
  • flirting couple
  • student leaving ridiculously early
  • blatant cell phone use
  • nodding off student desperately trying to stay awake
  • shameless sleeper
  • holy crap that guy/girl just won't shut up!
  • [attempted] subtle cell phone use
  • sunglasses indoors
  • brave but fruitless show of individuality from "that" kid
  • socks and sandals
  • someone eating an entire meal
  • achingly attractive member of the opposite sex
  • flustered T.A.
  • technical difficulties
  • hilariousness due to foreign professor
  • every adjacent student on facebook
  • someone's phone going off full volume
  • student arriving ridiculously late
  • obviously stoned kid
  • classic video game played on emulator
  • student clearly working on something for another class
  • that's obviously not coffee in that thermos
  • professor says "divide into groups"
Now the way my friends and I play it is we assign different point values to each of the squares because not every single one of those things happen every class period. So it is possible to get Bingo but that doesn't really mean that you are going to win the game. Although word of warning...don't excitedly scream out bingo in the middle of your boring class.....that might just get you committed to that psych ward I mentioned earlier.
Have fun friends ;)
Much love,
-L

Excited

Oh my heavens....it's already 2012!!!!!
Seriously where did 2011 go????
This year is going to be so great though. It started out fun enough after all.
My UTES WON and became the champions of the SunBowl.
Fantastic way to finish out our first year in the PAC!
Proud of my boys in red!!!
GO UTES!!!!

I went to a rockin' New Year's Eve party with my bestest best friend
and then New Year's Day my
RAVENS WON!

I'm a very proud Ravens fan right now. AFC North Champions!!! GO RAVENS!
Also they are continuing on to the Divisional Playoff game against the Patriots!
Proud of those boys in purple!
I am so excited for this new year though!
The new year brings with it new opportunities, new adventures and even more important a new, clean slate. I am so ready to make this year the best year of my life so far. I've already started that by buying myself a car! As I was driving it home from the dealership I kept thinking over and over again "Holy crap I'm an adult now!" funny how that hit me just now. I mean I have finished almost two full years of school at the U but it took buying a car of my very own for the whole adult thing to hit me.
I love my new car though and I really think that it is one of the very best decisions I have ever made. He's a cute 2010 Hyundai Accent GLS (and yes I did say he. I drive a boy car haha)
Name: Boo-RayLew {and yes there is a detailed story behind his name. Ask me about it sometime and I will tell you ;) }
Proud Parent: ME
I am so stoked about this car!!!!!!

I am so super excited for 2012! I feel like it is going to be a fantastic year!
Since I don't make New Year's Resolutions (why make a promise to yourself that has more than a 60% chance failure rate?) I instead pick a few of quotes that I try incorporate into my daily life.
Here's a sample of them for you:

"The most important thing is to enjoy your life - to be happy - it's all that matters." -Audrey Hepburn

"Know your limitations, and then defy them."

"Being normal is not necessarily a virtue, it rather denotes a lack of courage."

"If everything seems to be under control, you are simply not going fast enough." -Mario Andretti

"A person who is nice to you but is not nice to the waiter is not a nice person"

"I may not be the strongest, I may not be the fastest, but I'll be damned if I am not trying my hardest."

And finally the one that I really need to remember in my life: "Sometimes not being in control is the most beautiful thing in the world"

Happy 2012 my friends! I know I am a couple of weeks late but hey better late than never right?
